WYSE Travel Confederation is pleased to announce its re-election to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) affiliate board for 2018-2020. The UNWTO Affiliate Members Programme is designed to promote the exchange of expertise between the private and public sectors of tourism. As a UNWTO Affiliate Member, WYSE Travel Confederation is partnered with the UNWTO governing body to align private sector strategies with United Nations’ Goals.
“We are delighted to remain on the Affiliate Board of the UNWTO and we are looking forward to working with representatives of International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF/ Hostelling international) who have also been re-elected, in driving forward the private sector relationship with the vitally important UNWTO,” said David Chapman, WYSE Travel Confederation Director General.
One of these goals is sustainability in tourism. The United Nations named 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. The International Year aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behaviour towards a more sustainable tourism sector.
WYSE Travel Confederation is strategically positioned to impact the future of tourism. The Confederation is a community of 600 members from more than 450 organisations representing in excess of 120 countries across the globe. Collectively our members serve 30 million young travellers each year. We have been and will continue to work closely with our members to encourage and promote measures which meet UNWTO’s criteria for sustainable tourism development.
