In contrast to the traditional image of the hostel user, millennial hostel users are very unlikely to pack a sleeping bag, according to findings of the WYSE Travel Confederation Millennial Traveller survey.
It should come as no surprise that millennial travellers utilising hostels are packing their smartphones and expecting free WiFi, but millennials ranked location and cleanliness as the two most important hostel features. Bike rental and a bar or restaurant were seen by millennials as less important features of a hostel.
Millennial hostel users were more likely than other millennials to be travelling with friends or independently. Over 80% said that they travelled to collect memories and experience the local culture, hinting at the millennial hostel user’s adventurous, experience-seeking tendency.
The Millennial Traveller II report, published on 27 January, offers an insight into millennial traveller use of travel agents, airlines, tour operators and hostels.
